Robert G. Steinkamp, age 74, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2021, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia, Illinois.

He was born on January 25, 1947, in Breese, Illinois, the son of Edna Steinkamp.  He married the love of his life, Carolyn Mae Reinkensmeyer, on January 29, 1966, the coldest day of the year to his bride to be with the warmest heart, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman, Illinois, and she survives him in Centralia, Illinois.

In addition to his loving wife of 55 years, Robert is survived by his daughter, Julia Steinkamp of Centralia, Illinois; son, Daniel Steinkamp and wife Joni of Centralia, Illinois: grandchildren, Matthew Steinkamp, Josi Steinkamp and boyfriend, Mikey Hill, Shayne Brammeier and husband Adam, and Laci Seeger and husband Justin; great-grandchildren, Braxton Steinkamp and Macey Page; stepdad, Theodore Moses of Williamsburg, Kentucky, sisters. Betty Woods and husband Ford of Williamsburg, Kentucky, and Ruthie Hamlin of Williamsburg, Kentucky; brother, Tim Moses and wife Melinda of Williamsburg, Kentucky; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Edna (Steinkamp) Moses, son, Douglas Steinkamp, and brother-in-law, Bruce “Doc” Hudson.

Robert was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman, Illinois, since his childhood.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War.  He was stationed in Thailand for one year and served with the Air Commando Squadron.  He was discharged as a Staff Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force.  He was a former board member of the Illinois Trapper’s Association.  Robert loved country life and could be found out on his front porch taking in the fresh air, beautiful landscape, and wildlife around him.  He was an outdoorsman through and through, as he enjoyed hunting, trapping, and fishing.  He also enjoyed looking after his mini-farm, where he tended to his garden and looked after his horses, cattle, hogs, sheep, and other livestock.  Robert was always ready to share a good joke, and most of the time they were clean.  He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially all the hours teaching his grandson various outdoorsman, country living skills, and chores.

Robert was an over-the-road truck driver for nine years, operating the Steinkamp Trucking Company, with his son Daniel, until his retirement in 2005, as a result of failing health.  Earlier in life, he was a journeyman carpenter and millwright.  He was also a certified welder.  He graduated with Carlyle High School’s “Class of 1965”.  He lived in Centralia, Illinois for most of his life.
