2021 08/18 – Joseph “Joe” D. Rapp

Joseph “Joe” D. Rapp, 78, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away on August 13, 2021 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

A Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 18, 2021 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 am with Father Mark Reyling and Father Nick Junker officiating. Memorials may be made in Joe’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Saint Mary Building Fund. Joe married Judy (Reyling) Rapp on September 4, 1965 in Piopolis, Illinois. In addition to his beloved wife of nearly fifty-six years, Joe is survived by his sons, Curtis Rapp and wife, Kristi of Waltonville, Illinois, Jason Rapp of Dahlgren, Illinois; grandchildren, Lyle Reynolds and wife, Ciara, Levi Rapp and fiance, Brittani Rathe, Lynsi Rapp, Courtney Rapp and fiance, Daniel Oliver, Jeremiah Rapp; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Elliston, Bella Reynolds, Jace Reynolds, Avery Reynolds, Addi Beal, Taylee Rapp; aunt, Lucille Firnstahl; brothers, Gilbert Rapp of Dahlgren, Illinois, Ed “Gus” Rapp and wife, Cleo, Kenny Rapp; and several nieces and nephews.

He was born January 9, 1943 in Hamilton County, Illinois to the late Joe and Angelina (Haas) Rapp. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Angela Rapp and infant son, Alan Rapp. Joe was very proud and loved being a locomotive mechanic. His true love was farming and he enjoyed NASCAR. Joe loved his wife, children, grandchildren dearly and will be greatly missed.
