John Joseph Whitt, 61, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 9:10 pm August 9, 2021, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. Mr. Whitt worked as a truck driver. He was a prior member of the Faith Lutheran Church. He was a member of Logan Street Baptist Church and frequented Central Christian Church with his children. John was a foster parent at Caritas in Mount Vernon. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and loved his family dearly. John will be greatly missed.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, August 14, 2021, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 14, 2021, at 12:30 pm at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Pastor Denver Ayres officiating. Interment will follow. John married Sheila Rae (Hans) Whitt on August 5, 1990 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. In addition to his loving wife of thirty-one years, John is survived by his daughter, Christina Jacqueline Whitt of Texico, Illinois; sons, Charles Jacob Whitt and wife, Emily of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Paul Lewis Whitt and wife, Amber Elizabeth of Christopher, Illinois, Rielly Michael Whitt of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Conner Joseph Whitt, Caleb Jackson Whitt, Everleigh Jade Whitt; brother, Thomas Whitt and spouse, Steve of Mount Prospect, Illinois; sister, Barbara French and husband, Jason of Mount Prospect, Illinois; and nieces and nephews, Joseph, John, and Samantha Chavez.
He was born October 20, 1959, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Virgil Thomas and Joan Shirley (Absolum) Whitt.
