2021 08/07 – James Ruben Crain

James Ruben Crain, 60, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 3:57 pm August 3, 2021 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Mr. Crain proudly served his country in the United States Marines. He was an employee at Schmitt Chevrolet where he did auto body repair. James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle and will be dearly missed.

A Visitation will be held Saturday, August 7, 2021 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Mr. Randy Sells officiating. Interment will follow at New Shiloh Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Full Military Rites will be held at the cemetery by American Legion Post #141. In addition to his beloved wife and soul mate of nearly twenty one years, James is survived by his children, Sandra Lynn Bauer, Jacquelin Elizabeth Bain, Suanna Parker; grandchildren and daily joy, Cody Michael, Emalee Grace, Brian Marcus, Matthew Alan, Mason James, Rosalynn Mae; siblings, Debbie Nicholson and husband, Jim, Richard Crain and wife, Terri, Mike Crain; mother-in-law, Lynn Smith; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Barbara Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

He was born September 15, 1960 in Salem, Illinois to the late Fred Eugene and Norma Lee (Johnston) Crain. James married Roxanna Smith Crain on September 3, 2000. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother, Charles David Crain; father-in-law, Michael Smith; and nephew, Adam Crain.
