Roscoe Erwin Meeks, of Centralia, passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021, at his home at 102 years of age.
Roscoe worked for and retired from Illinois Central Railroad after faithfully working there for over forty years. He was a diligent worker who actively worked until his early eighties.
He was an avid reader and would read the Sentinel Newspaper from cover to cover. His favorite news to watch was CNN where he kept up with the world news. He also liked watching baseball games on television.
Roscoe enjoyed being with his family, and close friends. He had a great sense of humor and would keep you laughing while in his presence.
Final professional services are entrusted to Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia. At Roscoe’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral/memorial services. Roscoe was born May 18, 1919, to Erwin Jackson Meeks and Ibby Perkins in Pulaski County, Illinois. He was the third of seven children.
Roscoe united in holy matrimony to Linda D. Dabney Bee on May 20, 1977. To this union two children were born, Erwin J. Meeks, and Ibby D. Meeks.
Roscoe leaves to cherish his memory and legacy, his devoted wife, Linda Meeks of Centralia, seven children, Erwin J. Meeks, Ibby D. Meeks, Gregory (Melanie) Bee, Craig Bee, Shirley (Henry) Hudson, Darrell Meeks, Michael Meeks; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Reba E. Dabney; brother-in-law: Algie Dabney, Jr.; several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Roscoe was preceded in death by his siblings, Eunice Morris, Henderson Meeks, John Meeks, Joe Sam Meeks, Ivoe Meeks, and Faye Meeks; his oldest son, Roscoe Meeks, Jr.; two granddaughters: Kelsye Meeks and Tina Meeks.
