Regina Y. Shelton of Woodlawn passed away peacefully on June 11th, 2021.

She was born November 24th, 1965 in Kennett, MO to parents Helen Mullins of Woodlawn and Harold Shelton of Rector, AR.  Regina spent most of her childhood in Sikeston, MO, where she enjoyed playing softball in the summers and being on the Sikeston swim team.  Regina loved learning, so she then made the decision to move to Southern Illinois and further her education.  She graduated from Washington University with a master’s degree in social work.  Regina then began her career working for the State of Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.  She had such a great passion for animals.  Regina loved to travel and has visited many places, but her favorite was the white sandy beaches and blue oceans.  If there was an opportunity to go she was there.  Regina was an ovarian cancer survivor, but that never stopped her from living life to the fullest.  Her smile was captivating.  Regina had many friends and was a great friend in return.  She believed her purpose in life was to touch someone.

Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  The family asks for any donations to be made to an animal shelter of your choice in Regina’s name.

Regina is survived by her civil union partner Brenda Bletscher, her service dog Chance, and new puppy Whiskey, mother Helen Mullins, father Harold Shelton, brothers Kevin Shelton and sister in law Leila Shelton, Barry Shelton, and Michael Shelton, nieces and nephew Amanda and husband Michael McKinley, Craig Shelton and wife Tiffany Shelton and Kirsten Shelton, great-nieces and nephews Gaige McKinley, Gavin McKinley, Austin Shelton, Gannon McKinley, Garret McKinley, Adaleigh McKinley, Kaylee Shelton, Anzleigh McKinley, Alleigh McKinley, Arleigh McKinley, Coleson Shelton, and Layke McKinley, and many great friends.  She is also survived by the best neighbors for 30 years, the Fricks.
