Lyal Sands, 86, of Irvington passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at Mt. Vernon Healthcare. Mr. Sands was a loyal employee of Burgess Norton in Geneva, Illinois for 20 years. Lyal was of the Pentecostal faith. He attended Grace Fellowship Church in Centralia. He enjoyed doing leatherwork, saddle repair and canvas work, running his own small business S & D Leather Crafts for 8 years in Irvington. Lyal grew bountiful gardens and always tended his gardens with care. He was an expert fisherman that could come back with an impressive bass catch after his fishing trips. He loved to sing and was never shy to share his voice by joining in when others were singing Country Western, and Religious songs. Family time was of great importance to Lyal and he treasured the memories made while together.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 9, 2021 at Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia. Friends are invited to a visitation time from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday, July 9, 2021 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Lyal’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association and will be accepted for the family at the funeral home in Centralia. Survivors that will remember Lyal’s love for his family include his brothers, Dale Sands of Benton, Illinois, Robert (Karen) Sands of Kimberling City, Missouri, and George Sands of Edwardsville, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was born on November 4, 1934, the son of Lyal and Lucille (Totten) Sands in Salem. He married Wilma Lampert in 1958 and they later divorced. Mr. Sands was preceded in death by his parents, Lyal and Lucille Sands; two infant sisters; and his sisters, Anna Sands, and Helen Smith.
