Sammie D. Bryant, 84, of Sandoval, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2021, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Clayton, Missouri.

Sammie served in the U.S. Air Force Flight 73 Airman 2nd Class. After retirement, he worked for the State of Illinois Division of Rehabilitation Services for 7 years. He was a member of the Calvary Pentecostal Church in Farina. He also was a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and sharing the Gospel everywhere he went. Sammie loved spending time with his family and friends.

Funeral Services for Sammie Bryant will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 3, 2021, at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia with Pastor Sam Hester officiating. Military rites will be accorded at the grave by the American Legion Post 446 and the V.F.W. Post 2055. A visitation will be held Friday, July 2, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home. Memorial contributions in memory of Sammie may be made to the Sandoval Cemetery Fund and will be accepted by the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street in Centralia, IL 62801 (618) 532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Bryant family. He was born February 23, 1937, in Junction City, the son of Oscar Joe Bryant and Lydian (Jordan) Bryant. He married Hazel Lee on January 24, 1958, and she survives in Sandoval.

In addition to his wife of 63 years, Hazel Bryant of Sandoval, he is also survived by his four children: Sheryl Kleiboeker and husband Gary of Iuka, Brenda Ashley and husband Kevin of Goreville, Teresa Clark of Kell, and James “Jim” Bryant and wife Robin of Junction City; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and one on the way; one great-great-grandchild; brother: Danny Bryant of Centralia; sister: Jody Acree of Front Royal, Virginia; two sisters-in-law: Melba Bryant of Centralia and Shirley Bryant of Gatesville, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Sammie was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter: Christine Ristick, a grandson: LC CPL Nicholas “Nick” Kleiboeker, two sons-in-law: Sam Clark and Frank Ristick, five brothers: Harold Jack, Melvin, Raymond Joe, and Jerry Bryant, three sisters: Ruth Bailey, Vera Horton, and Dorothy Williams, and two infant sisters: Barbara and Betta.
