Sunny Kay (Middleton) Cowger, 84, of Odin, formerly of Santa Maria, California, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2021, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. Sunny was an avid bowler, enjoyed going to the casino, vacationing, cheering for her beloved Dallas Cowboys, and was a huge Dale Sr. fan. She retired from Bank of America in 1992, and moved to Illinois from California in 2006. You could always find her being crafty, and if you were lucky you had a pair of her hand knitted slippers. She always said her greatest accomplishment was her children, they were Number One and she was their biggest fan. Her sweet smile, sharp wit, and truthful advice will definitely be missed by all that loved her.
As per Sunny’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia is assisting the family. You may leave condolences and memories to the family online at www.maczfuneralhomes.com or the funeral home’s Facebook page.
She married Dick Cowger in 1958 and they later divorced. Those left to cherish her memory are her children: daughter, Kathy Albert, son- in-law, Ray of Odin; sons, Robert Cowger, daughter-in-law, Monica of Santa Maria, California; and Michael Cowger, daughter-in-law, Diane of Pismo Beach, California. Grandchildren: Bobby, Ray III (Mandy), Kyle, Carabeth, Jake, Austin, and Courtney Kay. Great-grandchildren: Lana Rose, Arnoni, Addison, and one on the way. Brother, Bob Baggett of California; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She was born July 18, 1936, in Binger, Oklahoma, the daughter of Fadrel and Carney Baggett and Curtis Middleton. Those loved ones that preceded Sunny in death were her parents, 2 brothers, 1 sister, and granddaughter Lana Albert.
