John O. Melvin, 57, of DuQuoin, Illinois, passed away at 3:37 pm June 19, 2021 at AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Illinois. John worked as a mechanic who loved racing cars and riding motorcycles. He was the Chapter Boss of the Marion Black Pistons Motorcycle Chapter. He is deeply loved by his many family, friends, and chapter family and will be missed dearly by all of them.
A Visitation will be held Friday, June 25, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 12:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. John married Tammy (Highfill) Melvin on May 25, 2012 and she survives in DuQuoin, Illinois. In addition to his wife, John is survived by nine children, John O. (significant other, Beth Williams) Melvin III of Herrin, Illinois, Trent (Shelby) Barber of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Tyler Barber of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Trevor Barber of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Jami Melvin of Sesser, Illinois, Tricia (significant other, Bert Bloomfield) Melvin of Ava, Illinois, Maeleigh Melvin of DuQuoin, Illinois, Myai Melvin of DuQuoin, Illinois, Brandi Melvin of DuQuoin, Illinois; sixteen grandchildren; mother-in-law, Dee Schreiber of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and stepmother, Marilyn Melvin of DuQuoin, Illinois.
He was born January 11, 1964 in DuQuoin, Illinois to the late John O. Melvin, I and Patricia (Johnson) Melvin. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Davina Overbey; father-in-law, Arthur Highfill; and stepfather-in-law, David Schreiber.
