2021 06/08 – Bertie Sexton

Bertie  Sexton passed away at 2:32 am on June 5, 2021, at Lavender Ridge. She was lovingly cared for at Lavender Ridge and we are so grateful for the love and care that the staff gave to her.

Bertie Rosenburgh Sexton was born on April 5, 1935 to Roy (GR) Rosenburgh and Ruth (Reed) Rosenburgh. She was born at home in the area of Middleton, Illinois. She married George Sexton on December 2, 1976, in Mount Vernon. He preceded her in death on April 2, 2008.

Bertie graduated Wayne County High School in 1953. After high school, she went to work for Al Easton at Easton’s Flower Shop in Wayne City. She worked there for many years. After the shop was sold she worked in McLeansboro at Roger’s House of Flowers. In the late 1960’s she opened Bertie’s Flower Shop in Wayne City. She ran her own flower shop until her retirement.

She was a member of the Keenes Christian Church and a member of the Wayne City Eastern Star 563.

Bertie was preceded in death by her husband; infant son, Gale Ryan Sexton; stepson, Gary Sexton; parents; brothers, Owen Rosenburgh, Robert Rosenburgh; and sister, Mary Ellen Clark.

She is survived by her nephews, JG Clark, Bobby Rosenburgh, Chuck Rosenburgh; nieces, Terese Rosenburgh, Linda Woodrome, Nique Scarbrough, and their families; stepson, Jim Sexton and his family; many great-nephews and nieces; and several great-great-nephews and nieces. She was very loved by all of her family.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 8, 2021, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Archie Sanders Memorial Chapel in Wayne City, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 pm with Minister Tim Coonce officiating. Interment will follow at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Bertie’s honor to SSM Health at Home Hospice or Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City, Illinois.
