2021 05/29 – Henry Earl Howell

Henry Earl Howell, 84, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 10:20 pm May 19, 2021 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. Earl worked as a union foreman for 55 years. He was a member of the Baptist faith, as well as the Mount Vernon Masonic Lodge and Jefferson County Shrine Club. Henry was greatly loved by his family and will be dearly missed.

A Visitation will be held Saturday, May 29, 2021 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 pm with Reverend Bud Story officiating. Interment will follow at Old Shiloh Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Memorials may be made in Henry’s honor to the American Cancer Society. Please remember to observe social distancing at this time. Earl is survived by his children, Diana Litton and husband, Jim of Carmi, Illinois, Debra McCord of Crossville, Illinois, Dorothy Chelf and husband, Raymond of Kuttawa, Kentucky, Earlene Mount and significant other, Scott Harris of Indianapolis, Indiana, Paula Foltz and husband, Jim of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Johnnie Earl Howell and wife, Tina of Indianapolis, Indiana; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Wayne Howell and wife, Dotta of Amory, Mississippi and Glenn Howell of South Haven, Mississippi; and several nieces and nephews.

He was born May 18, 1937 in Baldwin, Mississippi to the late Johnnie and Cleo (Miller) Howell. Earl married Jessie Mae (Weems) Howell on February 5, 1957 in Chicago, Illinois. They were blessed with 59 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on March 8, 2016. In addition to his parents and wife, Earl was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Tom McCord; sister, Nellie Howell; and sisters-in-law, Aubrey Howell and Faye Rettinghaus.
