Mary Ann (Mathus) Smith, 88, of Dix, passed away at 2:45 p.m., Monday, May 17, 2021, at her home.
She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School. She enjoyed fishing, cooking, gardening, and taking care of her family.
In accordance with Mrs. Smith’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded, and a Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at 7 p.m., at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, with Rev. Aaron Trotter officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 25, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation, and will be received at the service, or mailed to The Osborn Funeral Home, P.O. Box 130, Dix, IL 62830.

She was born on September 21, 1932, in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of Roy Willard and Fern (Weatherford) Mathus. On June 29, 1951, she married William A. Smith, and he preceded her in death on April 21, 2018.
Mrs. Smith is survived by five sons, William D. Smith and wife Diane of Dix, Rick Smith of Mt. Vernon, Larry Smith of Dix, Mike Smith and wife Cathy (Vaught) of Murray, Kentucky, and Terry Smith of Dix; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Williamson.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James A. Smith; a daughter Pamela S. McBride; a great-grandson, Liam Smith; and two brothers, Leroy Mathus, and Curtis Mathus.
