Arthur “Art” Lee Flota, 81, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 3:15 pm May 21, 2021, at Nature Trail Health Care in Mount Vernon.
Mr. Flota owned and operated Arts Decorating Center for many years. He also owned and operated the Bible Book store for several years. Art was a Deacon at Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church for forty-five years. He coached Lebanon’s church league team for twenty-eight years and led many of his players to the Lord. Art was over the youth programs at church for over twenty-eight years. He taught Sunday School and was very active in his dream of building the church gymnasium. Art was an avid Saint Louis Cardinals Fan, Mount Vernon Rams Fan, and Kentucky Wildcats Fan. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and will be dearly missed.
A Visitation will be held Monday, May 24, 2021, from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 3:00 pm with Reverend Travis Hayes and Reverend Gary Davenport officiating. Interment will follow at Medders Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Art’s honor to the Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund. Please remember to observe social distancing at this time. He was born April 8, 1940, in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Edward and Helen Marie (Clements) Flota. Art married Sharon (Medders) Flota on November 15, 1959, in Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
In addition to his loving wife of nearly sixty-two years, Art is survived by his sons, Trent (Anita) Flota of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Todd (Stacy) Flota of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Joshua Flota of Fairfield, Illinois, Hailey Tolley of Ina, Illinois, Tyler (Devin) Flota of Danville, Indiana, Trevor (Taryn) Flota of Saint Louis, Missouri, Amanda (Tony) McClain of Nason, Illinois; great-grandsons, Emmett Tolley of Ina, Illinois, Tony and Tyler McClain both of Nason, Illinois; brother, Gary (Donna Rae Shirey) Flota of Ocala, Florida; sister-in-law, Dorothy Flota of Molino, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Art was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Eugene Flota.
