Schauffele lapping field at Travelers

CROMWELL, Conn. (AP) — Xander Schauffele shot his second straight 7-under 63 to take a five-stroke lead in the Travelers Championship.

The Olympic champion shot a 31 on the front nine at TPC River Highlands with four birdies, then had a 32 on the back, making birdies on 11, 14 and 17.

Kevin Kisner, Nick Hardy, defending champion Harris English, Cam Davis and Patrick Cantlay were tied for second at 9 under. First-round leaders Rory McIlroy and J.T. Poston followed opening 62s with 70s to drop six strokes back.

Chun has huge lead

BETHESDA, Md. (AP) — In Gee Chun shot a 3-under 69 to lead by six strokes after the second round of the Women’s PGA Championship.

Chun led by five after the first round, equaling the biggest 18-hole advantage in the history of women’s major championships. The Congressional Country Club course was a bit more forgiving Friday. She began with three birdies in the first five holes, but bogeys on Nos. 7 and 8 kept her from pulling away further.

Lydia Ko and Jennifer Kupcho were second.

Harrington, Stricker lead through 36

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) — Padraig Harrington and Steve Stricker are going at it again. This time, they get to decide it with their own golf shots.

The Ryder Cup captains from Whistling Straits last September are in the final group going into the weekend at the U.S. Senior Open. Harrington was bogey-free for a 65 at Saucon Valley. He has a one-shot lead over Stricker, who birdied his last three holes for a 69. The weekend will not include Bernhard Langer. The 64-year-old German great missed the cut for the first time in 14 years playing the senior majors.

European tour bans LIV golfers from Scottish Open

MUNICH (AP) — The European tour says players who competed in the Saudi-backed breakaway LIV series will not be allowed to play in the Scottish Open and two other upcoming tournaments.

The tour says any players who took part in the inaugural LIV event in England this month have been suspended from the Scottish Open, Barbasol Championship and Barracuda Championship. All three events are co-sanctioned by the European tour and the PGA. They were also fined $120,000.

The European tour says there could be “further sanctions” if the players continue to compete in LIV without authorization.
