The Centralia City Schools Board of Education honored this year’s class of retirees at the June meeting on Tuesday. Each one at the meeting was with a clock in honor of their service to the district. The list of retirees honored includes:
- Michael Middleton, 6 th Grade Geography Teacher, 29 years of service
- Debra Nottmeyer, Admin Assistant to the Superintendent, 33 years of service
- Raphael Rush, Schiller School Custodian, 31 years of service
- Micheal Kusturin (in memory), Junior High School Custodian, 28 years of service
- Tanga Coffey, Junior High School Cook, 12 years of service
- Maria Webster, Junior High School Cook, 10 years of service
- Stephanie Sachtleben, Junior High School Paraprofessional, 8 years of service The board thanked these retirees for their contributions to the district, emphasizing the value they each contributed by staying with the schools for so many years.
In the superintendent’s report, Craig Clark gave the district’s final enrollment numbers for the 2021-2022 school year, showing that the district had dropped thirty-eight students since August. He also noted a larger trend of decreasing student population over time, as the district’s total number of students has decreased by more than two hundred over the past twenty years. Clark said that these changes were typical of school districts in Southern Illinois and had been anticipated by the district.
In other business, the board approved Kristin Stedelin as the district’s IMRF Authorized agent, and approved the purchase of cafeteria tables for Schiller School, costing roughly $23,900 in total.
