ST. LOUIS (AP) — Nolan Gorman hit his first major league homer and Matthew Liberatore earned his first major league win, helping the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers 8-3. Liberatore pitched around a couple of Gorman errors in five scoreless innings. He allowed two hits, struck out six, and walked three. Gorman had four hits, drove in four runs, and scored three times. Paul Goldschmidt had three hits, including a homer, and also drove in four runs. Victor Caratini hit a two-run homer for Milwaukee in the ninth. Keston Hiura also went deep.
CHICAGO (AP) — Keegan Thompson outpitched Johnny Cueto over five solid innings in a spot start, Frank Schwindel drove in two runs and the Chicago Cubs beat the crosstown White Sox 5-1. Thompson improved to 5-0. He matched his longest outing of the season, allowing one run and five hits at Guaranteed Rate Field. The right-hander struck out four and walked one in his third start and 11th appearance. Schwindel capped a two-run first and two-run seventh with two-out RBI singles. His hit to right in the seventh made it 5-1 and chased Cueto. The veteran right-hander gave up five runs and nine hits after tossing six scoreless innings against both Kansas City and the New York Yankees in his first two starts for the South Siders.

— The Tampa Bay Rays have ended the New York Yankees’ four-game winning streak after dropping the first two games in their series. Corey Kluber worked six strong innings and the Rays scored a pair of late runs to beat the Yankees, 3-1. Kluber allowed one run and three hits, walking none and striking out five in a no-decision. Yandy Diaz had a tiebreaking infield in the seventh, one inning before Manuel Margot (mahn-WEHL’ mahr-GOH’) extended his hitting streak to 15 games with an RBI single. J.P. Feyereisen (FY’-ur-eye-sehn) improved to 4-0 with his 19th straight scoreless relief appearance. Gerrit Cole blanked the Rays for the first five innings and struck out 10 over six frames.
— Nathan Eovaldi’s (eh-VAHL’-deez) first career complete game with a seven-hitter as the Red Sox took the opener of a doubleheader with the Orioles, 5-3. Rafael Devers hit four singles for Boston, and Kiké (KEE’-kay) Hernández added a two-run single in the Bosox’s eighth win in 10 games. Robinson Chirinos (chih-REE’-nohs) smacked a two-run homer for Baltimore.
— The Birds took the nightcap on Rougned Odor’s (ROOG’-nehd oh-DOHRZ’) three-run blast in a 4-2 win versus the Red Sox. Odor homered just over Boston’s bullpen to make it 4-0 in the third inning. The drive came after Ramón Urías (oo-REE’-uhs) hit an RBI single against Josh Winckowski, who made his major league debut.
— The Blue Jays scored three times in the eighth on a pair of miscues to beat the Angels, 6-5. Second baseman Luis Rengifo (rehn-HEE’-foh) booted the relay throw of Matt Chapman’s RBI double, allowing Teoscar (tay-AHS’-kur) Hernández to come home with the go-ahead run. Mike Trout homered and Matt Duffy tied a career high with four hits for the Angels, who have dropped four straight.
— The Mariners posted a 6-0 win over the Astros behind Logan Gilbert, who limited the AL West leaders to four hits over seven innings. Kyle Lewis homered for the second straight game and Julio Rodríguez continued his torrid stretch with three more hits. Seattle has its first winning streak since a four-game run in late April.
— Marcus Semien hit a grand slam to highlight the Rangers’ 18-hit attack in an 11-4 trouncing of the Athletics. It was Semien’s first home run since signing a free-agent deal with Texas last winter. Corey Seager and Adolis (ah-DOH’-lees) García added back-to-back shots to help the Rangers earn their fourth win in a row.
— Bobby Witt Jr. delivered three more doubles for his second straight three-hit game, sending the Royals to a 7-3 downing of the Twins. Hunter Dozier added three hits as Kansas City won for just the second time in nine games. Luis Arraez and Carlos Correa had three hits and Trevor Larnach homered for Minnesota.
— José Ramírez collected five RBIs with a bases-loaded triple and a two-run homer in the Guardians’ 8-1 thumping of the Tigers. The three-time All-Star is batting .297 with a major league-best 48 RBIs in 42 games. Winning pitcher Shane allowed one run and eight hits in a season-high eight innings.
— Jeff McNeil hit a go-ahead, three-run homer during a rain-soaked fourth inning that allowed the Mets to win another series, 8-2 against the Phillies. Francisco Lindor drove in three to extend his RBI streak to a career-best six games. Luis Guillorme (gee-OHR’-may) matched a career high with three hits and the NL East leaders improved to 31-17.
— Sandy Alcantara (al-KAN’-tah-rah) dominated the Braves for the second time in a week, tying a career high with 14 strikeouts in the Marlins’ 4-1 victory. Alcantara allowed only four hits with no walks in eight innings while earning his third consecutive win, six days after throwing a complete game against Atlanta. Miguel Rojas homered and Garrett Cooper’s two-run double off Collin McHugh in the seventh made it 4-1.
— Mookie Betts started the game with a leadoff homer and Justin Turner added four hits in the Dodgers’ 3-2 downing of the Diamondbacks. Betts hit his 32nd career leadoff home run, ripping a fastball from Merrill Kelly over the right-field fence for his sixth long ball over the past eight games. Turner added two doubles and two singles, contributing four of the team’s 10 hits.
— Ke’Bryan Hayes launched a three-run home run off Taylor Rogers with one out in the ninth inning to give the Pirates a 4-2 victory at San Diego. — Chad Kuhl (kool) pitched 6 1/3 innings and the Rockies beat the Nationals, 3-2 to split a doubleheader. José Iglesias had three hits and drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh. Colorado’s Charlie Blackmon went 5 for 10 in the doubleheader.
— Kyle Farmer continued his homer binge with a three-run blast in the Reds’ season-high fourth straight win, 3-2 versus the Giants. Farmer has driven in eight runs while going 6-for-10 during the last three games since missing three with a sore back. Aristides Aquino ended the game by throwing out pinch-runner Joey Bart at the plate following Wilmer Flores’s ninth-inning, two-out single.
