The IHSA boys state track meet begins today with 1a preliminary rounds followed tomorrow by 2a prelims before all the finals on Saturday on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
In 1a today, Christ Our Rock’s Landyn Mitchell is the top seed in the 110 hurdles as well as competing in the long jump and triple jump.
Salem & Mt Vernon will be well represented in 2a this weekend. For Salem, sophomore Silas Lux is seeded 12th in the shot put. Teammate junior Trey Clark is 12th in the discus. Junior Payton Gullion is 21st in the high jump, Jr. Alex Spencer ranked 30th in the 800 and the 4×400 team of juniors Payton Gullion, Avery Gullion, Alex Spencer and senior Hunter Malan are seeded 35th.
Mt Vernon will be represented by Karter Oliver in the high jump, Spencer Sledge pole vault, Keaton Koch 200m, Jayden Jones 800m, Joel Hayes 1600m, William Green the 3200m, as well as the 4×200, 4×400 and 4×800 relays.
