The IHSA Prep boys track sectionals continue today. Salem will travel to Triad High School in Troy to compete starting with the field events at 1 and the running events will begin at 3pm. Salem is in the field along with Civic Memorial, Breese Central, East St Louis, Greenville, Highland, Jacksonville, Jerseyville, Rochester, Roxana, Lanphier, Sacred Heart Griffin, Springfield Southeast, Taylorville, Triad and Wood River.
Yesterday at the 1a Fairfield Sectional, Christ Our Rock’s Elijah Gregory and Zerek Koch both medaled. Gregory ran a PR in the 800m and placed 5th. He followed that up with a 9th place in the 1600. Koch brought home 6th in the 3200 and also ran a PR in the 1600 finishing 10th. Senior Hayden Torrence finished 12th in the shot and 13th in the discus.
In 2a sectionals at Mascoutah, Centralia’s JehChys Brown won the discus and shot put to advance to the state meet.
At the 1a Newton Sectional, South Central student London Hails who is competing via Co-Op with Patoka High School qualified for the State Track Meet in the long jump finishing 2nd in a distance of 6.03 meters.
