A national touring display of the American Revolutionary War Experience is in Salem now through November 19th.
The Salem and Centralia chapters of Daughters of the American Revolution both applied to receive the display from the national organization and then elected to work together to bring the display to the area.
The honorary Regent of the Isaac Hull Chapter of the DAR, Judy Beyers, says there is a lot of interesting information that should be of interest to students and adults.
“There are twelve panels, and it tells the history of Revolutionary War battles and the history of some of the important people,” Beyer said. “There are women on there as well, there are Indians, and some of the presidents.”
A Regent of the Prairie State Chapter Stella Schilling asked to be added to the waiting list after seeing the display earlier in Murphysboro.
“It’s surprising what you might learn there that you didn’t know,” Schilling said. “On the kiosk I was just looking at, it had the list of patriots, which were the ones for the United States, and the loyalists, who were supporting England. It’s surprising how many women were involved, and there were also people from other countries who were supporting us at the time.”
The display will be available every day the Bryan Bennett Library is open through November 19th.
