Odin School Superintendent Kim Briggs.

Odin School Superintendent Kimberly Briggs is stepping down to take the Superintendent’s job in the Chester Unit School District.

Briggs says her one year at Odin has been nonstop projects.   She is pleased the major renovation of the high school is getting underway and is also pleased with coming curriculum improvements.

“We looked at the curriculum as well as other opportunities out there for vocational-type things for our students.   We’ve been working to send some kids to Okaw, which is Vandalia, working with Patoka on transportation since they already send some kids there. We’re working with Sandoval to send some kids to CNA.  We are also going to be sending some kids to KC.  We are really trying to broaden that for our kids.”

Briggs says she has also worked to get everyone on the same track and working together as one team to benefit the school.

Briggs will officially leave Odin on June 30th.  She says working at Chester will allow her to be closer to her daughter.   However, she admits she will miss a lot of people at the Odin School.

Briggs reports some initial flooring work and the fire exits in the high school portion of the building have started during spring break to help assure the entire project is done by the start of school in the fall.

The Odin School Board continued to meet on the second Monday of the month.

The board acted on a number of personnel issues at Monday’s meeting.

  • Shawn Rasul resigned as head high school softball coach and is being replaced by Dave Spears.
  • Emily Jackson stepped down as a paraprofessional.
  • The board hired Sam Smith as a provisional music teacher for the next school year.
  • Kylie Pitts was hired as a paraprofessional.
  • Cheryl Kell presented her letter of intent to retire after the 2025-26 school year.
