The SC 13u Storm Chasers won the Can of Corn GMB Chatham Tournament this weekend coming back from a 7-1 deficit to beat the Red Bud Aces 12-9 in the title game. SC was down 7-1 after 1.5 innings and trailed 7-4 after 3 but scored 6 times in the fourth to take the lead. Red Bud would load the bases in the final inning, but Trent Ingram would strand them striking out the final hitter. At the plate, Luke Shumate and Ingram drove in 3 runs each. Kaiden Herrell added 2 RBI. Payton Gullion had a hit and scored 2 runs and drove in another. Luke Shumate started the game working 4 innings, Payton Gullion worked 1.1 before closer Ingram got the final 5 outs of the game.
SC got to the championship winning their opener on Sunday over Taylorville 11-6. SC scored 5 times in the opening inning to put the game away early. Sebastian Kruger and Austin Grieve homered for the Storm Chasers; Avery Gullion drove in 3 runs with 2 RBI from Kruger. Payton Gullion had 2 hits including a double and scored a run. Also at the plate, Luke Shumate scored a run, Hayden Prather singled and scored twice, Boston Isaacs had 2 runs and Carter Spitzner added a single.
SC opened the tournament with a 3-1 win over Taylorville. Boston Isaacs and Harrell drove in runs for SC who trailed 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth. Hayden Prather was the winning pitcher allowing 2 hits and 1 run with 10 strikeouts. Austin Grieve set the table at the top of the lineup going 2-3, Trent Ingram had 2 hits and scored, Kruger singled and scored, Avery Gullion scored a run.
SC dropped their only game of the tournament on Saturday to the 2nd ranked team in Illinois falling to the Z20 Platinum Batz 10-9. SC trailed 4-0 after the top of the first only to score 8 in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. The Batz would score 2 in their final at bat to take a 10-8 lead, SC scored once in the bottom of the inning but left the tying run on base. Grieve singled and scored along with Payton Gullion. Luke Shumate and Ingram added 2 hits each and both drove in a run, Garret Shumate added a hit. On the mound, Trent Ingram and Boston Isaacs worked in the loss.
