Clay County State’s Attorney Andrew Koester has announced the filing of three felony charges after more than 800 grams of methamphetamine is seized at a rural Farina home.
Roger W. McCarty is facing charges with Class X charges intent to deliver between 400 and 900 grams of methamphetamine and armed violence as well as a Class Two felony of possession of a weapon by a felon. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
Bond was set at $1-million during his first appearance in Clay County Court on Friday. The bond also covers three other drug charges McCarty faces from an arrest last year.
An arrest warrant for delivery of methamphetamine was served on McCarty at his residence on Thursday. After being taken into custody, a search warrant was obtained for the residence, and the 800 grams of methamphetamine, large amounts of suspected illegal drugs, a firearm, cash, scales, and drug paraphernalia were seized.
The Clay County State’s Attorney’s Office is thanking agencies involved in the investigation and apprehension of McCarty. They include the Southeastern Illinois Drug Task Force which conducted the investigation with assistance from the Clay County Sheriff’s Department and Flora Police.
If released on bond, McCarty was ordered to abstain from illegal drugs with random testing and be fitted with a GPS monitoring device. The Public Defender was appointed to represent McCarty. A preliminary hearing is set for February 23rd.
The other charges McCarty has pending from his May 2021 arrest are two Class X charges of delivery of 15 to 100 grams of methamphetamine and a Class 2 felony of delivery of under five grams of meth.
