The Iuka Fire Department has named Jonathan Barlow as its fireman and first responder of the year.

Iuka Fire Chief Kenny Eagan says the honor is decided by a vote of department members. Barlow, who joined the department three years ago, responded to 114 of the department’s total 152 calls and was above average on training hours.

The department honored two members who are retiring.

Assistant Chief Nick Hays is stepping down after 30 years on the department. Dan Pearson is retiring after seven years on the Iuka Department and 37 total years in the fire service.

Eagan reported of the 152 calls, 109 were emergency medical calls, 16 motor vehicle accidents, five structure fires, two brush fires, five vehicle fires, one combine fire, five mutual aid calls and nine good intent calls.
