Two people have been arrested after Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies broke up what was reported to be a burglary in progress by making entry into a barricaded door.

32-year-old Jubal Dulaney, who is homeless in Salem, and 45-year-old David Linder of Metcalf Road in Iuka were arrested on two counts apiece of criminal trespass to property and resisting arrest.   Both were later released on notices to appear in court.

Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps says the investigation is continuing and they have not been charged with burglary and theft at this time because there is information the two had started squatting in the vacant home on South College Street in Salem.  An investigation is also continuing on if the two had stolen items from the home or were in the process of stripping wiring from the home.

Upon arrival, sheriff’s deputies indicated their investigation led them to believe that the suspects were still inside the residence. Additional deputies responded to assist, and a K-9 unit from the Centralia Police Department was requested.

After multiple attempts to have the suspects voluntarily exit the residence were unsuccessful, deputies and the K-9 unit made entry through a barricaded doorway.   Upon entering the residence, Centralia Police K-9 “Ace” successfully apprehended Linder, who received medical treatment for injuries sustained during the apprehension.  Dulaney was later found hiding in the attic with the help of a thermal imaging camera.

The sheriff would like to commend the responding deputies for their professionalism and teamwork throughout this incident. He also extends his sincere appreciation to the Centralia Police Department, the K-9 handler, and K-9 Ace for helping bring this incident to a successful conclusion.
