Marion County Treasurer Gary Purcell has announced he will seek a second term.

The Salem Republican feels he has moved the office forward in several areas since taking office.

“I got a website started it is kind of bare bones right now we are looking to add more material to fill that in and add more information for the public to look at things more readily and the taxing bodies can look up their distribution sheets.  That will save time because every year the auditor needs those and every year if they do a bond issue they need those kind of records and it makes it alot easier for them if they are working after hours or doing research.”

Purcell is also pleased with improvements to the online payment system.

“The pandemic might of improved online payments, they like more than doubled.  People can use their checking account to pay multiple properties at one price.”

Purcell says progress has also made in more use of electronic banking transfer. If reelected, he plans to continue to make the website better and more user friendly as well as to establish electronic transfers for the largest taxing bodies to speed their payments. Purcell says another important part of the job is keeping up to date on all changes in laws and regulations.

Purcell will run in the June Republican primary. If he wins there, he’ll move to the November General Election. No other candidates have announced for the position.
