Jefferson Fire Protection District firefighters were able to knock down a fire inside a home east of Mt. Vernon early Saturday morning quickly.
Firemen say the Tim Hurst family on North McCulley Lane woke up when hearing a smoke and carbon monoxide detector. All three of those in the home escaped without injury before firemen arrived.
The fire resulted in moderate damage to the hallway and living room of the residence. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Bluford firemen responded with mutual aid assistance.
The fire call came in at 5 Saturday morning. Firemen were on the scene for one and a half hours.
