What was feared to be a fire at the Rome Meadows complex on Route 37 south of Dix Monday evening turned out to be an overheated dryer in the fourth-floor laundry room.
Jefferson Fire Protection District Firemen called several departments for mutual aid before learning the smoke smell was coming from the overheated dryer. At that point, all the mutual aid was canceled except Woodlawn who manned the Jefferson Fire District station until they were done handling the call.
