A mobile home on Salem’s south side was heavily damaged in an early Tuesday morning fire.
Salem Fire Protection District officials say the fire was at the Alexis Byars home at 2609 South Washington.
Salem Fire Marshal Bill Fulton said a noise woke Byars up and when she opened the bedroom door she smelled smoke. She was able to get the other four in the residence at the time out without injury before firemen arrived. Byars reported two others also lived in the home, but were not home at the time.
First arriving firemen reported heavy fire at the rear of the mobile home. The entire home sustained heavy fire and smoke damage. The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical in nature as it started in a storage room with the breaker box. The power was also arcing back at the meter further indicating an electrical problem.
No other buildings were threatened.
The fire call came in at 2:41 Tuesday morning. Firemen were on the scene until around five am.
