Franklin Park Wins 2nd Straight Regional Title…Selmaville Heads To State

The Franklin Park Lady Bobcats are Regional Champs for the 2nd straight year after defeating Highland by a score of 35-29.  The Lady Bobcats trailed 29-21 halfway through the fourth quarter and tied it with 2 minutes left.  Salem finished the game on a 14-0 run.  Marah Johnson led the way with 13 points and Jordan Kessler added 10.  Jaelyn Keller and Hannah Smith had a phenomenal defensive night to help secure the victory for the Lady Cats.  Salem will face the winner of Carmi/Mt. Carmel in the first round of the state tournament next Saturday at 1:15 in the final first round game of the day.

Other first round State games from Rend Lake next Saturday will see Harrisburg take on Waterloo, Carterville plays O’Fallon Fulton and Wolf Branch awaits the winner from Region 3 either Hamilton County or Casey Mt Vernon who play this morning.

 

The Selmaville Lady Rockets are once again regional champs as they knocked off Field 48-20.  Allie Hustedde finished with 25 points in the win for the Rockets, Kale Benjamin added 12 and Morgan Kurwicki finished with 7.

The Class S State first round will be in the afternoon on Saturday.  Selmaville will play the winner of Region 2.  They will play semifinals today with Jonesboro taking on Thompsonville and Giant City against New Simpson Hill.

In Class M at Aviston, it was the hosts knocking off Breese 56-35, also Nashville earned another regional title with a 43-15 win over Fairfield.

The Class M State tournament will open on Friday with Vienna and St Clare of O’Fallon, the 2nd game of the day will feature the Goreville Regional Winner against the winner from Christopher.  Smithton takes on Aviston and then Pinckneyville will play Nashville at 7:15 pm on Friday.
