Mt Vernon & Centralia survived to the championship semifinals today of the 78th annual Centralia Holiday Tournament. The Rams earned a 68-63 double overtime win over Confluence Prep Academy. 6-8 big man NJ Benson led the Rams with 29 points and 24 rebounds. Trey’Shawn White led CPA with 30 points in the loss. The Rams advance to play at 12:30 today against 10-0 Vashon after their 63-49 win over Romeoville.
The 2nd semifinal of the day at 2pm will feature the undefeated Orphans who knocked off Belleville West 64-52. Koby Wilmouth led the Orphans again with 18 points, Harlan finished with 16, Dalton 15 and Tabor 11 in the win. Evanston struggled a bit but beat Muhlenberg 43-35 in their quarterfinal game.
Also yesterday, Champaign Central beat the JV of Belleville West on the consolation side of the bracket 54-37, Chatham Glenwood over Lausanne 53-41, Mundelein-Carmel 70-62 winners over Cahokia and the Centralia JV earned a win over Kipp 43-37.
The day begins at 8:30 a.m. with Muhlenburg and Belleville West playing in Trout and Confluence and Romeoville in the Annex. Then at 10am it’s the consolation semifinals with Champaign Central and Glenwood in the annex and Mundelein and the Orphans JV in the main gym. Then at 11:30 in the Annex, Belleville West JV against Lausanne followed in the annex at 1 with Cahokia and Kipp.
