Marion County voters have selected Anthony Decker as their next sheriff.
Unofficial vote tallies show Decker finishing election night with 8,061 votes. Cody Rose is anticipated to have gathered most of the 3,839 write-in votes cast.
Decker thanked his supporters.
“I’m just grateful and humbled by the amount of support I got. To the people who worked hard to help me, I really appreciate everyone. I will continue to work hard for the people of Marion County as I have my entire career. It’s an honor to get the opportunity to serve in the next role as new sheriff. Very grateful to continue and will continue to walk God’s path and continue serving.”
Decker anticipates his first hurdle will be replacing several senior personnel who will be retiring soon. He says while there will be some minor changes, he doesn’t think any major changes are needed.
Marion County Treasurer Gary Purcell and incoming County Clerk Zach Rose both ran unopposed, with Purcell beginning another four-year term and Rose replacing retiring clerk Steve Fox.
