NEW YORK (AP) — Michigan pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson is a rare defensive player among the Heisman Trophy finalists. He will be joined at Saturday’s presentation ceremony in New York by three quarterbacks: Alabama’s Bryce Young, Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud and Pitt’s Kenny Pickett. Alabama linebacker Will Anderson Jr., who is leading the country in both sacks and tackles for loss, finished fifth in the voting. It is the first time since 1962 that two defensive players have finished in the top five. The only player to win the Heisman playing primarily defense was Michigan cornerback Charles Woodson in 1997.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa running back Tyler Goodson is heading to the NFL and won’t play in the Citrus Bowl against Kentucky on Jan. 1. Goodson has led Iowa in rushing the past three seasons. He ran for 1,151 yards and six touchdowns in 2021 and 2,551 yards and 18 touchdowns in his career. Coach Kirk Ferentz says he appreciates Goodson’s contributions to the program.
