UNDATED (AP) — The nation’s No. 1 and No. 4 basketball teams were vanquished on Saturday.
Paolo Banchero scored 21 points to lead No. 5 Duke over top-ranked Gonzaga, 84-81. The Bulldogs clawed back from a nine-point, second-half deficit to take the lead, but the Blue Devils closed on a 13-9 run.
Wendell Moore Jr. scored 20 points and Mark Williams added 17 points and 9 rebounds for the Blue Devils.
Julian Strawther led Gonzaga with a career-high 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Unranked Dayton had dropped three of its first five games this season before stunning No. 4 Kansas at the ESPN Events Invitational.
Mustapha Amzil picked up a loose ball with three seconds left and nailed a running jumper in the lane at the buzzer to give the Flyers a 74-73 triumph over the Jayhawks.
Dayton had five players score in double figures. DaRon Holmes II had 16 points, and Toumani Camara and Elijah Weaver both added 14. Weaver hit a pair of 3-pointers and Holmes ended a 16-1 surge with consecutive dunks to put Dayton up 53-50 five minutes into the second half.
Ochai Agbaji scored four of his 21 points during a late 6-0 run, helping Kansas take a 73-70 advantage with just over a minute remaining.

— Zach Edey scored 20 points in 16 minutes as third-ranked Purdue pounded Omaha, 97-40. Preseason All-American Trevion Williams had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Boilermakers, who went on a 29-0 run early in the game and improved to 6-0 for the first time since the 2015-16 season.
— James Akinjo scored 15 points and No. 6 Baylor took control early in the second half to beat Michigan State 75-58 for the Battle 4 Atlantis championship. The Bears led by just two before putting together a 17-6 run to start the second half.
— Gabe Kalscheur poured in 30 points and led Iowa State to a 78-59 win over No. 9 Memphis in the NIT Season Tip-Off championship game. Tristan and Aljaz Kunc each scored 11 points for the 6-0 Cyclones, who led by five points at halftime and increased their advantage to as much as 25 in the second half.
— TyTy Washington scored 14 points to lead No. 10 Kentucky to an 86-52 thumping of North Florida. Oscar Tshiebwe had 12 points and 16 rebounds for the Wildcats.
— Jahvon Quinerly scored 18 points and 10th-ranked Alabama bounced back from Thursday’s shocking loss to Iona by getting past Drake, 80-71 in the consolation round of ESPN Events Invitational. Juwan Gary added 14 points and 10 boards to the win.
— Kofi Cockburn scored a career-high 38 points to lead No. 14 Illinois to a hard-fought 94-85 win over Texas Rio Grande Valley. Alfonso Plummer scored 30 points on 8 of 14 shooting for the Illini, connecting on 6 of 11 3-point attempts.
— Brandon Huntley-Hatfield furnished eight of his 12 points during a 12-2 spurt in the second half that pushed No. 15 Tennessee past Tennessee Tech, 80-69. Olivia Nkamhoua led the Vols with 18 points.
— Jabari Smith provided 22 points and No. 19 Auburn beat Syracuse 89-68 on Friday in the fifth-place game at the Battle 4 Atlantis.
— R.J. Cole scored 26 points 22nd-rated Connecticut won the third-place game at the Battle 4 Atlantis by knocking off VCU, 70-63.
— Isaiah Mobley scored 18 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and contributed to a stifling defense that carried No. 24 USC to a 58-43 victory over San Diego State in the title game of the Paycom Wooden Legacy.
— Nate Johnson scored 30 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 25 seconds left in No. 25 Xavier’s 59-58 triumph over Virginia Tech in the consolation game of the NIT Season Tip-Off.
