The 20th annual Salem Thanksgiving Tournament opened up last night, and the very young Salem Lady Cats dropped their opener to Teutopolis 71-31 as the Shoes grabbed a 21-2 lead after the opening quarter. 9 Lady Shoes scored led by Emily Konkel with 15 and Isabella Hardieck finished with 10. Salem was led by Aelisa Keller with 11 and Kayla Felgenhaur who added 7. The Lady Cats return to tournament play tonight when they host Centralia. It’s the only game on the schedule tonight and will tip off on WJBD at 6pm.
The tournaments opener last night was a dandy, with Highland holding on to pull off the win over Carterville 44-43 in a game that came down to the final shot when Carterville’s three-pointer at the buzzer was well short.
In other regular season action, South Central knocked off North Clay 50-36 behind 20 from Halle Smith. Brooklyn Garrett finished with 15 for SC.
