By WJBD Staff Nov 2, 2021 | 6:45 AM

Salem Soccer was pleased to have their first 5ht/6th Girl’s team. They went 10-4 overall, and a perfect 6-0 in SWIS league play. They competed in two tournaments. The Jackson Fall Kickoff in Jackson, MO, and the Halloween BOOster Tournament in New Baden, IL. They went 1-3 in the Jackson, and they brought home first place at the Halloween Booster Kick New Baden, IL.

Over the course of their season, the girls scored 55 goals and only allowed 19. The girls challenged themselves at the end of the season. They traveled to Effingham to play a coed team and they didn’t shy away from very tough competition in Jackson, MO. They also played the top teams in their league at the New Baden Tournament. They were coached by Chris Johnson and Thomas Petrillo.

Coach Petrillo said, “These girls had a great season. They worked hard every practice and that hard work paid off on the field. They earned every win, including the tournament championship in New Baden. It was an honor and a privilege to coach this group of girls. Girl’s soccer has a bright future in Salem. We look forward to seeing them learn and progress each season. Thank you to the players, coaches, parents, and fans that supported us. GO LADYCATS!”

Salem Soccer will have tryouts in mid to late February for 5th-8th grade girls. Information on tryouts can be found at www.soccersalem.com. Email us with questions about Salem Soccer at soccersalem@outlook.com.
