The SC Lady Cougars won their 11th regional championship last night with their 25-15, 21-25, 25-22 win over Altamont at St Anthony. It is also the first regional title won by someone not named Mary Brimberry. Halle Smith finished with 12 kills, Olivia Brauer 16 assists, Sierra Arnold 14 digs and 10 kills. Brooklyn Garrett had 3 kills and 10 digs. SC is 28-6 on the season and will head to the Wayne City Sectional Monday to take on NCOE.
Also in 1a regional championships last night, Woodlawn beat Grayville in 3 sets at Albion, Cumberland beat the hosts at Clay City, Valemeyer over Carlyle in 3 sets at Metro East Lutheran, Steeleville beat Zeigler at Elkville, and at Central A&M it was Windsor/Stew Stras beating Macon Meridian.
In 2a regional championships it was Mater Dei over Shelbyville 25-12, 25-15 to win the Flora regional. Tori Mohesky recorded her 400th kill of the season which is a Mater Dei record. Also, Pana beat Litchfield at Carlinville, Carterville won their home regional over Pinckneyville, Carmi beat the hosts at Fairfield, Hamilton County over Massac County at Harrisburg, Breese Central beat the hosts at Newton 25-21, 25-18 and Nashville beat Columbia at Red Bud 25-21, 25-27.
In 3a regional title matches last night, Centralia won the Mt Vernon regional knocking off Carbondale in straight sets 25-20, 25-12. Also Rochester beat Lincoln at MacArthur, Mattoon over Marion in 3 sets at Effingham, Taylorville knocked off the hosts at Mascoutah and Waterloo over Civic Memorial at Troy.
And in 4a, O’Fallon beat Belleville East at Collinsville and Edwardsville won the Granite City Regional over Belleville West.
