Salem Soccer’s 1st/2nd grade team finished their league schedule in Bartelso Saturday afternoon. Chances were created by Ethan Petrillo, Skylar Gaston and Jonah Findley. Kaysen Findley and Petrillo did well in net. Their next game is at the Jackson Fall Kickoff on October 30-31 in Jackson, MO. They will be sponsored by Morton & Son’s Farm.
The 3rd/4th grade girls hosted Highland Saturday morning. This finished out their league schedule. Their 15-0 victory gave them a perfect league season of 8-0 (overall 9-0-1). Goals were scored by Sophia Decker (4), Addyson Nix (2), Alyx Pearce (2), Stevie Nix, Gianna Lowder, Braelyn Holzhausen, Piper Stanford, Kinsley Gansauer, Brooklyn Anderson, and Gabby Gaston. Gaston and Lowder kept the clean sheet in net. After the game, the team had a tailgate party celebrating the year and say goodbye to Holzhausen, who is moving out of the area. The girls next game will come in the Jackson Fall Kickoff. They will be sponsored by People’s National Bank.
The 5/6th boys traveled to Aviston on Saturday to complete their league season. They played hard with only nine players, but ultimately lost 8-0. The finished their league season 3-3. Next weekend, they will play in New Baden’s Halloween BOOster Club Kickoff. They are sponsored by Apollo’s Cafe from Salem. They will be playing as the Salem Zombies.
The 5th/6th girls hosted Aviston Saturday afternoon. They won a close game 3-0, staying undefeated in league play. Goals were scored by Adeline Douglas, Shelby Johnson and Sarah Hosie. Talya Gowler played well keeping the clean sheet. The girls then traveled to Effingham Sunday. They faced the U12 MUSC Knights (coed). They played this game in the 11v11 format. They lost 2-8 with both goals scored by Sarah Hosie.
The 7th/8th grade team also traveled to Effingham to avenge an early season loss. They played the U14 MUSC Knights. They went into half down 1-4 with a goal from Caleb Purintun. In the second half, the defense stepped up and didn’t allow a goal. However, Salem could only add two goals, another from Purintun and one from Alex Spencer. The game ended in a 3-4 loss.
