The Centralia High School Alumni Association has announced they will honor two distinguished alumni with awards this year.

High School Principal Dr. Reid Shipley has announced James Sumner from the Class of 1965 and Dale Miller from the Class of 1970 will be honored this year.

Sumner currently serves as the President of the USA Poultry and Egg Export Council, a non-profit trade association for the US Poultry and Egg industry. The organization is responsible for opening and developing markets for US poultry and eggs in some 120 countries around the world and operates 13 international offices with a $17-million budget. Sumner has held his current position for 30 years and became involved in agriculture a couple of years after his graduation from Southern Illinois University with a degree in journalism in 1970. He served one year as editor of the Salem Times Commoner after graduation.

Miller is a retired broadcast executive who began work in the industry in 1966 and retired this summer after 55 years. He created or operated 55 radio stations in his career and founded the Metronews Radio Network in West Virginia. Miller earned multiple awards over his career and served as President of the West Virginia Broadcasters Association.

Shipley says the two will be honored in an assembly before the student body on Friday afternoon, October 29th. A dinner will follow that night at the Centralia Cultural Society. Tickets are $25 apiece and are available by contacting the Principals office at Centralia High School.
