Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps says a person responsible for a threatening note found at the Iuka Grade School on Tuesday has been identified and action taken. The note transmitted a possible threat to students inside the building.
Cripps says school officials took the appropriate action and locked down the school. As sheriff deputies arrived, they began a preliminary investigation. As the investigation continued, officials reviewed evidence, conducted interviews, and identified a student suspect.
Cripps says school officials are taking the necessary steps to ensure safety in accordance with their policies. The State’s Attorney’s Office is involved in the case and will review possible charges.
Marion County Sheriff’s deputies also went to the suspect’s residence and confirmed that the student had no access to firearms.
Cripps said anyone with questions about the investigation should contact Lieutenant Anthony Decker at the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
