Iuka Firemen were joined by Orchardville Firemen in putting out a fire that destroyed an abandoned home southeast of Iuka Monday afternoon.
Iuka Fire Chief Kenny Eagan says the roof had already fallen into the home at 1356 Klomp Road before they arrived. The ownership of the home has not been determined. He says the cause of the fire also is unknown. The fire spread a short distance into a wooded area, but was quickly put out.
Eagan says he called Orchardville for mutual aid because the home was on the other side of the Skillet Fork Bridge on the Route 161 Extension from Iuka and they’re unable to cross the bridge with the current weight limit.
Eagan reports firemen were on the scene about a half hour.
