SCHS Post Season Golf: Two members of girl’s team advance to state

SCHS Girls Golf:   The Salem Lady Wildcats golf team qualified two players as individuals for the State Class 1A golf tournament on Monday.   Alyssa Paul and Kenzie Anderson advanced by finishing in the top ten individuals.   Salem as a team finished seventh among 13 teams.   Mt Carmel won the sectional and Marquette Catholic (2nd) and Massac County (3rd) also advanced as a team.

Alyssa Paul shot an 84 to claim the 5th individual spot, while Kenzie Anderson claimed the 10th place position after shooting an 88. Anderson initially tied with 2 other players but won the spot in a sudden-death play-off after 2 holes.

The overall low medalist for the sectional was Gracie Piar from Marquette Catholic who shot a 2 under par 70.

Both Paul and Anderson will compete in the state finals this coming Friday and Saturday in Decatur at the Red Tail Run Golf Course.

SCHS Boys Golf:  Four members of the Salem boys golf team competed at the Effingham boys sectional as individuals but failed to place in the top ten to advance to state.  Jairen Stroud shot an 81 to finish 31st.  Hunter Russell shot an 84 good for 54th place, Cole Harris had an 89 and finished 80th and Steven Mulvaney shot a 95 and finished 94th.
