The Salem Wildcats Caden Bee caught a 43 yard pass to setup Salem’s only score of the game, a 7-yard td reception from Greene to Bee as Salem cut their deficit at Breese Central to 7-6 with 2 minutes to play.
However, the Cats Sam Greene was held out of the end zone on the 2-point conversion and Central escaped with the 7-6 victory propelling them to a first place tie with Freeburg at 3-0 in league play.
Salem saw their 4 game winning streak snapped as offensively the Cats couldn’t get anything going not gaining over 100 yards of offense until late in the 4th quarter.
Central scored on the first drive of the game as quarterback Landon Garagosian took it 23 yards to the house. The young man had a great game. He rushed for 96 yards and a score, he intercepted 2 passes on defense and came up with the onside kick recovery after Salem’s score which appeared as though the Cats recovered, but somehow Garagosian came away with it.
The Wildcats defense was great after that opening drive, not allowing Central’s offense to get going much at all.
Salem returns home next week to host Columbia for Homecoming and Senior Night.
