There are more than 70 entries for Saturday’s 50th Anniversary Little Egypt Festival Parade.
General Chair Jay Henke wasn’t sure what to expect with COVID-19 still being an issue.
“I’m surprised at the amount of entries we have just coming out of COVID. I’ve been to a few events where the crowds have been huge because people want to do things but participation from vendors and things like that are slowly starting to get back on their feet. We’ve had a few bands and that that won’t be at the parade because of the lingering effects of COVID, but it will be as big of a parade as it has been in years past.”
The parade will step off at two Saturday afternoon from Bryan Memorial Park and make its way down the traditional route of North Broadway and then west on Main Street to around Indiana Street where the parade will break up.
Henke says after a year’s absence due to COVID-19, all other events of the festival are also scheduled to make a return on Saturday.
“Got a large amount of craft and food vendors downtown so everything seems to be going good with that. Horse and Car show is going well and everything is falling into place. Kids area downtown will start in the morning all morning long. Big wheel race will start at 10:00 a.m. on West Schwartz. Horse show at Franklin Park and car show in the park.”
Registration for the car show begins at eight and continues through eleven am. The trophy presentation will be at one. Entries will then be able to join the parade at two.
Henke says with a good chance of rain in the forecast for Saturday afternoon, they will be keeping their eyes to the sky but are hoping for only scattered showers that would allow everything to proceed as planned.
WJBD will provide complete coverage of the parade and any updates on activities all day Saturday.
