Salem Fire Protection District officials are uncertain what caused a series of small spot fires on Citation Oil property off the Lazy Acre Road near Semaville Road southwest of Salem Friday afternoon.
Some of the fires were burning near oil tank batteries, so firemen had to wait to extinguish the fires with water until electricity was shut off.
Because of the nearby oil field property, Kell, Centralia Fire Protection District, and Odin Firemen were all called to the scene for mutual aid while Kinmundy-Alma Firemen responded to the Salem Fire Station in the event of another fire.
