The Marion County Health Department will begin administering the third dose of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine every Tuesday, beginning September 14th. The clinics will be held at the health department’s Salem office by appointment only.
Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says the CDC is currently recommending that moderately to severely immunocompromised people receive an additional dose.
This includes people who have:
- Been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood
- Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
- Received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
- Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
- Advanced or untreated HIV infection
- Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your immune response
If you are unsure if you are recommended for a third dose, you’re asked to talk with your healthcare provider.
The third dose of COVID-19 vaccine can be given anytime 28 days after receiving the second dose. You should receive the same brand of COVID-19 vaccine you received for your first and second doses, either Moderna or Pfizer.
Please call the office at 618/548-3878 to make your appointment. No walk-ins will be allowed.
