Antique Power Days at the Marion County Fairgrounds open Thursday with a large consignment auction. Activities are planned through Sunday including the Illinois Hot Farm Stock Pullers tractor pull on Friday night.
Committee member Sean Earle is inviting everyone out to relive farming the way it used to be.
“Friday evening we have a tractor pull at 7pm and that’s a $10 admission to the grandstand. We will have our farm toy show and toy auction Saturday morning at 10a.m. We will have our threshing and bailing demonstrations as usual, we weighted tractor pull Saturday at 9 a.m., the flea market including vendors, plenty of lawn mowers, stationary engines and a lot of tractors coming in. We have the Alice Chalmers featured this year.”
The fairgrounds will be open to view all the antique tractors and equipment as well as demonstrations from nine to five on Saturday and nine to four on Sunday.
Sales totaled $86,000 in Thursday’s consignment auction. There were 81 selling equipment and 400 buyers. Three auctioneers helped with the sale. The Salem Super Cruise will be held for the 32nd year on Saturday in the large field behind the Salem Super Eight Motel. There are eight car classes and six truck classes along with 11 special trophies, including Best of Show.
There are three awards for top motorcycles. Registration is from nine to one.
There will be a cruise through Salem at three. It will travel West Boone Street to North Broadway, south on Broadway to the fairgrounds and Antique Power Days and then north on South Broadway to West Main and back to the field behind Super Eight. Awards will then be handed out.
