A 79-year-old Ashley woman has died from injuries sustained in a fire that destroyed her home early Tuesday morning.
Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger identifies the victim as Linda Hawkins.
Ashley Fire Chief Jack Boczek reported his department along with Nashville and Irvington were dispatched to the Hawkins home at 11:53 Monday night. Hawkins along with her husband and daughter were all at home when the fire broke out and got out safely. However, for an unknown reason Linda returned inside the home and never came back out.
Hawkins was rescued by firefighters and ambulance personnel and transported to the Washington County Hospital in Nashville for treatment. She was pronounced dead in the emergency room at 7:44 Tuesday morning.
Styninger says the cause of death was determined to be smoke inhalation and the manner of death is listed as accidental.
