Governor JB Pritzker says he’s deeply concerned about the abortion law passed in Texas.

Texas now has one of the most restrictive laws in the country, banning abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy.

Governor Pritzker responded by saying, “first I would say shame on those Texas lawmakers for taking away not just women’s rights but women’s health.  Banning abortions does not keep women safe.”

The governor says he will work to protect women’s rights in Illinois.

“I am very concerned and focused on making sure that here in Illinois we are a beacon of hope for people who need reproductive health.  And we see that with women coming from other states like Missouri to be allowed to see a doctor for goodness sakes.”

A divided US Supreme Court refused to block the new Texas law raising questions about its impact in other states.
