The Odin School has a new principal.
Centralia High School Social Study teacher Quinton Marcum has accepted the position effective July 1st. Quinton has been a teacher at Centralia High School for 13 years and has an undergraduate degree from McKendree and a Master’s Degree from Eastern Illinois University.
Marcum feels now is the time in his life to become an administrator and see this as a great chance to give back to the community where his grandfather lived.
Marcum says his first goal will be to create a stable learning environment as the district comes out of the COVID-19 pandemic year. As principal, Marcum will handle teacher development as well as discipline.
Marcum replaces Kimberly Briggs who was initially hired as principal and later promoted to Superintendent when Sam Alli resigned to become Superintendent at the Iuka Grade School.
In other action, the board appointed Chris Haines to an open seat on the school board. The board has been one member short since the April election because not enough candidates ran. Haines will serve until the next school board election in April 2023.
The board accepted the resignation of Junior High Science Teacher Heather Humes who has taken a teaching job at Mt. Vernon City Schools.
The board also accepted the resignation of Bill Kelley as Assistant Boys Basketball Coach.
